Our moment of quiet came today at 4:47pm here at Tin Shingle, when reflective thoughts could come in, allowing for a moment of silence today for 9/11 victims, their families, first responders, and those who helped. And then pictures and news of Irma flooding in Charleston happened - during Florida , after Texas, and so many others, and it became overwhelming. So many victims in the past, and so many victims being created right now - today.

You know the song and dance - you pitch the press about your business, and they respond with: "Sure, we can publish that - when you place an ad." And they may CC their marketing person or provide you with their email address. As a digital marketing producer, I've heard this complaint from clients when I encourage them to pitch the media with their anniversary celebration, or any other reason that they should try for pure editorial.

In honor of National Parent's Day, Ashley asked me for a day-in-the-life write-up for the Diaries of Small Business Owners section on Tin Shingle. This is a member-produced blog platform for our small business members to share what it's like building, growing and running a business from a behind-the-scenes perspective.

Tin Shingle's Training TuneUp is going on Maternity Leave for the rest of June, returning for the What To Pitch: July series on Wednesday July 5th 2017, and then on July 19th and July 26th and August 2nd.

The new little baby is not here yet, but will be any day! So it's best that we clear the calendar.

It's Monday again, and this time it's smack on the 1st of the month.

Tin Shingle knows of your secret dreams to be a published author. Some of you already are published authors, and you have pumped it up to market your books. This is why we tapped into Katie's first friend during her Harper Collins days, Kelly O'Connor McNees. Kelly and Katie started in book publishing as editorial assistants, and went on to publish FOUR books. Yes four.

What are you doing for your Money Monday? Make this an Invoicing Monday! Sometimes, just one invoice becomes very hard to send. You may be putting it off because your day is too busy, or for emotional reasons, you keep forgetting to send it (because you have a fear of billing clients).

Now in its second year, the practice of making and keeping New Years Resolutions here at Tin Shingle falls into a category of doing something specific. Some call this goal oriented. I call this - just more fun. For instance, a resolution do not take the form of: "I will get rich!" Rather, it takes the form of "Refinance House And Eliminate PMI" (PMI is that mortgage insurance that some people need when purchasing a home, and for our family, has been an extra $150/month for a number of years).
