A #Regram is a hashtag that you use when you repost something that you saw on someone else's Instagram, onto your Instagram account. It involves either screen-shotting, or saving someones else's original post, and then reposting it, using the hashtag #regram, and acknowledging the source of the original Instagram post by crediting the source's Instagram handle. To not include the source's Instagram handle is a Major Instagram Faux Pas!
It's not just good form to credit the source, it can actually get the source interested in working with you, and it can create new followers through the cross promotion on both of your Instagram accounts. By reposting their post and crediting them, it is publicity that you are creating for their company on your social media platform, (who doesn't love that) not to mention, you are giving them a compliment or kudos on an interesting post. After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?
It is also considered "illegal" to post on Instagram by "regramming" without acknowledgement of the original creator or without using the #regram hashtag.
Why posting with #regram is helpful to you as a small business owner?
When Giuliana Rancic wore and posted about one of our client's t-shirts that gave a portion of proceeds to a breast cancer awareness charity, we made sure to screenshot, and #regram her post. Showing her Instagram page and name on our page, also lends even more credibility to the fact that she posted this image on her own.
Use a Regram When:
There are many reasons you can regram, including:
- posting inspirational quotes
- wanting to connect with a new potential client by reposting their image
- posting something a celebrity or influential person said about your company or client on Instagram
- to get the attention of the media
- to show your client that you have a partnership or network with a certain company that is of interest to them.
It's a good vibe-inducing trick!
