Michael Ptacin

Michael is a marimbist and freelance percussionist based in the Piedmont Triad area (Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem) of North Carolina. He holds a Doctorate in Percussion Performance with a cognate in Music Education from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). He has performed as a soloist with the UNCG Symphony Orchestra, Greensboro Concert Band, at Lawrence University and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. As a freelance artist, Michael performs regularly as a drum set player and pit percussionist for several musical theatre productions a year, including for UNCG, The Drama Center at Greensboro City Arts, and Elon University.

When not pursuing musical endeavors, Michael spends a great deal of time in his kitchen. A good southerner, he is a fan of butter and cream. Many pictures of his food can be found here.

Michael is also the Marketing Assistant for the Zeltsman Marimba Festival. He creates and designs emails and ads, compiles concert programs and writes program notes, and maintains the ZMF Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.
